GR ® A1

It is at Forillon National Park, on October 2, 2015 that the French Federation of Hiking (FFRandonnée) inaugurated the first Long-distance hiking route (GR®) in North America, the GR®A1, by the approval of 650 km from the International Appalachian Trail - Quebec (SIA-QC). The aim of this certification is to guarantee the quality and sustainability of the routes to which it is granted, in accordance with recognized and proven standards.

A GR® (Grande Randonnée), is a route supported by a network of path (s) which allows you to travel in several days:

  • One or more region (s): in France, we can cite the GR®20 in Corsica or the GR®3 from Mont-Gerbier de Jonc (in Ardèche) to Nantes (in Loire-Atlantique).

  • ›A massif: the GR®10 in the Pyrenees or the GR®54 around the Ecrins massif.

  • Whole countries: the GR®5 from the Netherlands to the Mediterranean or the GR®65 from Geneva (Switzerland) to finish in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

They can be followed on foot, guided by the uniform markup composed of a white line and a red line superimposed.

The GR® have a number and a name, they are approved by the French Federation of Hiking.
